2017 CR Banquet A Great Celebration

The players and members of Charles River Rugby Football Club donned their finest and met for the 2017 Awards Banquet on January 21. Presidents Alex Zadel and Chris Gardner had the privilege of handing out the awards at the Vanderbilt Kitchen and Bar.

For the women, long-time club cornerstone Jehanne Junguenet took home the Rat Spirit award. Energetic Maria Sedjo was selected as the Most Valuable Player for her consistent contribution on the pitch. The lady rats voted Sally Holmes as the Most Improved Player of the year, while enterprising and invaluable Susan Lackey won the Unsung Hero Award.  Newcomer Lucy Tin received the Rookie of the Year for her impact and play in the back line and spirit off the field.

On the men’s team, Ellis Patrick (and his adorable newborn son Lucas) accepted the Dennis J. Sullivan award. Unstoppable prop Tom Murray was chosen by his peers as the Most Valuable Player, while the previously thought to be incorrigible prop Mitch Sopp was honored for the tremendous improvement in his skills during the 2016 season. Nick Prieston won the Orange Whip award in recognition for his leadership and creativity for the B-side. Mark McCabe, the much-celebrated Charles River Eagle, was given the Old Man River award for contributions to the club by an Old Boy. Mark spoke at practices about his experience on the national team and what rugby meant to him, and came out to a number of the matches to support the club.

We wish to congratulate these players, and thank the rest of the community for all of their contributions towards making Charles River Rugby Club the best place to play rugby in Boston.
