Match Details: There was a different vibe to the Charles River Rats approach to their match against North Shore RFC, instead of thinking that they might win; the Rats knew they would emerge victorious, provided they did not play sloppy. Hoping to avoid the confusion that plagued the Rats in the previous game, Head Coach Paul Clemens extensively reviewed the lineout positions for his forwards and the defensive assignments for all his players.

The Rats kicked off to start the game and immediately made an impression, forcing a turnover on return. Scrum-half Zack Cox organized the offense and the Rats started to march inside Providence’s territory. After two phases, Providence was assessed an off-sides penalty about 35 meters from the goal post
[3]. Coach Clemens wanted to grab an early lead, so he called on Fullback Jerry Kenneally to attempt a penalty kick.

Match Details: The Charles River Rats had an early rugby day as their kickoff against Portland RFC was scheduled for 10am. The weather was, as Captain Ricky Friberg described, “sneaky hot” as many Rats were sweating during warm-ups. The field was, in the words of the referee, “if people complain about Moakley [field], they should play here; they’ll like Moakley a lot more
[3].” To the Rats and Portland all those conditions ultimately did not matter, as they took the pitch to play some hard, clean rugby.

Match Details: With a productive week of practice and a reasonable commute, Head Coach Paul Clemens felt that his players, the Charles River Rats, could pull-off the upset against the ruggers from the Granite State, Amoskeag RFC. Those feelings for optimism were quickly dashed when Amoskeag instantly proved that they were the more talented, improving their season record to 4-0, while the Rats have yet to win a game this season.

2013 fall season, it seemed that the Charles River Rats were showing signs of improvements as they nearly beat Newport RFC and scored a “try bonus” point in the NERFU standings against Saratoga Springs RFC. All the progress the Rats made under the guidance of Head Coach Paul Clemens diminished against New Haven Old Black RFC, as the Rats were severely beaten in nearly every faucet of the game.

th fall season with a hard-fought, closely contested match with Newport RFC. Leading into the match, Head Coach Paul Clemens and Captain Ricky Friberg faced a complex puzzle…setting the starting line-up, due to the number of regular starters missing for the Rats. Thanks to some emergency recruiting, the Rats had the numbers to field a full side with substitutes, unlike the last time Newport visited Moakley Park....

Following its first year in Division II, having ascended from D-III last fall, the women of Charles River took 4
th place at the annual NERFU tournament in Newport, Rhode Island, last weekend. The Lady Rats earned a seat at the Sunday Consolation Final after splitting with Burlington (VT) and Seacoast (NH) on Saturday. There, the Orange and Green battled Portland (ME), falling 26-5 in a tough, physical match. River celebrated the end of a successful tournament and a productive spring season, having finished in the middle of the standings in their challenging new division....
