Meet Ellis Patrick

The Charles River community wants to take special note to bid farewell to Ellis and Tanya Patrick, as well as their 4 month old son Lucas.

Ellis and Tanya came to the United States from their native Australia in 2015, Ellis working a postdoctoral fellowship at Brigham and Womens Hospital. They immediately became beloved members of the Charles River community, with Tanya a steadfast and infectious supporter on the sidelines, while Ellis lead his teammates by example, exhibiting a lethal combination of physicality, creativity, and doggedness that few opponents could account for. Ellis was nominated for what seemed like very position at the AGM that year, turning down all nominations save the position of Ombudsman. He helped to redefine that role within the club during the 2016 season, and departed for Australia in the winter of 2017 after being selected by his peers for the 2016 Dennis J. Sullivan Award.

But as great as their contributions on and around the pitch, it was the exuberance and life the Patricks brought off the pitch that will be missed so much. In their short stay they became a linchpin of the Charles River social community. They were eager to explore the United States’s beauty and culture, and shared the joy of the birth of their son Lucas with their American rugby family. Charles River is proud to have them as a part of our rugby community, and cannot wait to meet up again, whether in Boston or New South Wales.
