As USA Rugby continues to make structural changes in their effort to field the best side possible for the upcoming 2016 Olympics, the effects are being felt in Unions across the country. Because of these adjustments NERFU has undergone yet another realignment of clubs. Charles River Men will be playing as part of a redesigned, and more competitive, Division III beginning this fall. While the change in division was not the outcome River hoped for, especially due to the loss of Old Gold as a divisional opponent, the leadership of the club remains as committed as ever to maintaining the club’s long-standing traditions of hard work, great rugby, and brotherhood.

River Men’s Coach Paul Clamens has set a goal of not just winning in this new division locally, but of seeing River compete as a force in the national D3 playoffs. “We have the talent to win every Saturday. We just need to remain committed to playing as a unit and the rest will fall into place.” This sentiment from Coach Clamens is one that is echoed by co-captains Corey Lang and Tommy Conley. With this trio leading the way, and a great group of new recruits and returning vets on the roster, there is no doubt that River will put up an impressive showing this fall and will be back in Division II in the near future.

With familiar foes like Seacoast, fellow new D3 addition North Shore, Wolfhounds, & Boston Maccabi, as well as new opponents MIT, Springfield, & New London on the schedule, the fall is going to be full of competitive and exciting matches for River. One highlight of the divisional reorganization is that most of the matches this fall will be near to Boston, even for away games. Because of this we look forward to seeing friends, family, and fans on the sidelines – cheering the Rats on to another victory for the record books. Up River!
