Meet Jamie Carillo

Jamie Carrillo’s impressive rugby playing career began in 2008 at Bentley University, but her understanding and interest in the game began when she was attending high school in Zurich, Switzerland. Her high school did not have a women’s team, but once at Bentley she took advantage of the opportunity to begin playing herself and feel address a bit of homesickness she had of Europe after she returned to the US.Jamie Carrillo’s impressive rugby playing career began in 2008 at Bentley University, but her understanding and interest in the game began when she was attending high school in Zurich, Switzerland. Her high school did not have a women’s team, but once at Bentley she took advantage of the opportunity to begin playing herself and feel address a bit of homesickness she had of Europe after she returned to the US. Jamie played at Bentley from 2008 – 2012, including helping the team earn a DIII National Championship 2010. Her summers were spent playing competitive 7’s matches for the Falcons under former Charles River coach, Chip Auscavitch. Jamie made national competitive appearances an additional two times while playing with the Falcons.

Jamie actually started out with the forwards at the prop position but was itching for a position with a little more glory attached to it. Jamie communicated her interest to her coach and was given the nod to play inside center when a teammate was injured during match. The first time Jamie touched the ball in that game she scored a try, as well as a starting position in the back line.

Jamie Carillo

Jamie took a year off between college and club play. She had found herself having less and less fun playing the game as it got more and more seriously competitive. She joined Charles River in fall of 2013. She recalls knowing she had found the right team for her at CRWRFC after being welcomed with open arms by a group of girls who played with a ton of heart and were there because we all genuinely love playing the game of rugby, not simply winning games. Luckily for Charles River, the starting inside center position was up for competition and Jamie’s skill set (and amazing sweater collection she wears to pregame warm-ups ) were true assets to the club. Jamie has proved to be a reliable point scorer and on field leader to Charles River. Jamie was elected Back’s Captain for the 2013-2014 season and looks forward to this fall season with Charles River and returning to, and winning Northeast Playoffs this coming Spring.
