Unsung Hero:  Anne Beaumont

  • This woman has served diligently on the eboard for many years and worked tirelessly as Match Sec to coordinate what we need from a city organization that has made things very difficult for us
  • She, along with Cassie, pretty much ran the entire holiday card fundraiser, which was a huge part of the money raised in 2012; she worked on this for several months and was enthusiastic about it the entire time
  • She has a great big-picture perspective of the strengths, weaknesses, and challenges facing this club and consistently provides poignant input
  • She can always be trusted to tell you the hard truth
  • She is a solid rugby player who has a great instinct for game play
  • She inspires confidence in other team members when she’s on the pitch; her position requires her to do a lot of the work in the scrum even though she may not receive much credit
  • She never complains on the pitch; she always just does her job
  • She is an asset both on and off the pitch

Most Improved Player:  Jen Garner

  • This player joined the team two years ago and was sort of a sporadic member, eventually leaving due to other commitments
  • We are so grateful that she decided to come back to us
  • She has played almost every position in the pack without complaint
  • She has become a pivotal part of the team; she confidently leads the B-side team in games and is a very consistent and dependable rugby player
  • We have seen her fitness and knowledge of Charles River plays increase
  • She is always asking questions, is ready to listen and wants to know more
  • And she has simply outstanding rugby hair

Rookie of the Year:  Alicia Scahill

  • This rookie came to us because she didn’t feel that the other Boston teams were a good fit for her
  • It became immediately apparent that River was the perfect team for her; she got our sense of humor, she always has great costumes for events
  • She is enthusiastic about everything, whether it’s listening to coaching at practice, watching rugby on tv, or busting her ass on the rugby pitch
  • She has played lots of different positions in the back line and has been a great addition to both the A- and B-sides
  • She always gives 100% both on and off the pitch

Most Valuable Player:  Susan Lackey

  • Outstanding athleticism and leadership
  • This woman is everywhere in a game; nothing gets by her – she tackles, she rucks, she steals the ball, all while making it look easy and graceful
  • She has played multiple positions, willingly taking on roles outside of her comfort zone, all without complaint
  • She is the epitome  of a team player, always motivating everyone to give more and to fight just as hard in the last 5 minutes of the game as in the first 5
  • She is always striving to be better, always ready to listen and to work harder
  • She is very encouraging to all of her mates and works to involve the new players
  • She has the ability to spot players’ uncertainties and helps take them away
  • She has demonstrated great leadership on this team, both on the pitch and as an eboard member
  • In that capacity, she has been extremely valuable in the success of this team financially

Rat Spirit:  Lisa Natalicchio

  • This woman has been completely dedicated to this club for many years
  • She plays in every A-side game and on top of that either plays or refs the B-side game
  • She plays a very difficult position with skill and poise
  • She takes the time to coach and train new players
  • She learns everyone’s name and details about them to make them feel welcome
  • She is unfailingly positive both on and off the pitch & is an amazing role model for both vets & rookies
  • She attends almost every Charles River event
  • She has worked very hard behind the scenes in many roles, such as President, Captain, Match Sec, & Treasurer
  • She thoroughly loves this team & translates that love back to River in every way she can

Rat Spirit:  Jehanne Junguenet

  • This woman absolutely bleeds orange and green
  • She has really pushed herself this season as Captain; she has worked very hard to teach us how to be better rugby players & she has busted her rat butt to be a fitter, faster, and stronger force on the pitch
  • This woman is very inspiring to both rookies & vets with her attitude and determination
  • She convinced Brian to help coach us and he has been an invaluable resource
  • She’s always got a smile on her face and a corny joke up her sleeve
  • She wins all the socials, especially the themed ones; she comes up with some of the most entertaining costumes I’ve ever seen
  • She has the wonderful ability to bring the rugby community together and is an excellent representative for Charles River to other rugby teams everywhere
  • She has been our fearless leader this past year & I’m excited to see what she’ll come up with this year
